She screamed, "Help!" And she jumped up and ran out of the room. "Someone's been sleeping in my bed and she's still there!" exclaimed the Baby bear. "Someone's been sleeping in my bed, too" said the Mama bear. They decided to look around some more and when they got upstairs to the bedroom, Papa bear growled, "Someone's been sitting in my chair and they've broken it to pieces," cried the Baby bear. "Someone's been sitting in my chair," said the Mama bear. "Someone's been sitting in my chair," growled the Papa bear. "Someone's been eating my porridge and they ate it all up!" cried the Baby bear. "Someone's been eating my porridge," said the Mama bear. "Someone's been eating my porridge," growled the Papa bear. Goldilocks fell asleep.Īs she was sleeping, the three bears came home. Then she lay down in the third bed and it was just right. Then she lay in the second bed, but it was too soft. She lay down in the first bed, but it was too hard. Goldilocks was very tired by this time, she went upstairs to the bedroom. But just as she settled down into the chair to rest, it broke into pieces! "Ahhh, this chair is just right," she sighed. So she tried the last and smallest chair. "This chair is too big, too!" she whined. Goldilocks sat in the first chair to rest. So, she walked into the living room where she saw three chairs. "Ahhh, this porridge is just right," she said happily and she ate it all up.Īfter she'd eaten the three bears' breakfasts, she decided she was feeling a little tired. As Stephen Hawking put it, "like Goldilocks, the development of intelligent life requires that planetary temperatures be 'just right '". In planetary astronomy, a planet orbiting its sun at just the right distance for liquid water to exist on its surface, neither too hot nor too cold, is referred to as being in the ' Goldilocks Zone'. This concept has spread across many other disciplines, particularly developmental psychology, biology, economics, and engineering where it is called the " Goldilocks principle". Booker continues: "This idea that the way forward lies in finding an exact middle path between opposites is of extraordinary importance in storytelling". Author Christopher Booker characterises this as the "dialectical three", where "the first is wrong in one way, the second in another or opposite way, and only the third, in the middle, is just right". This follows three earlier sequences of Goldilocks trying the bowls of porridge, chairs, and beds successively, each time finding the third "just right". There are also three sequences of the bears discovering in turn that someone has been eating from their porridge, sitting in their chairs, and finally, lying in their beds, at which point is the climax of Goldilocks being discovered. The story makes extensive use of the literary rule of three, featuring three chairs, three bowls of porridge, three beds, and the three title characters who live in the house. Wright of 60 Pall Mall, London Literary elements Illustration in "The Story of the Three Bears" second edition, 1839, published by W. "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" is one of the most popular fairy tales in the English language. The story has elicited various interpretations and has been adapted to film, opera, and other media. The second version replaces the old woman with a young girl named Goldilocks, and the third and by far best-known version replaces the bachelor trio with a family of three. When the bears return and discover her, she wakes up, jumps out of the window, and is never seen again. She eats some of their porridge, sits down on one of their chairs and breaks it, and sleeps in one of their beds. The original version of the tale tells of an obscene old woman who enters the forest home of three anthropomorphic bachelor bears while they are away. RENAME CONSTRAINT constraint_name TO new_constraint_nameĪLTER TABLE ALL IN TABLESPACE name ]ĪTTACH PARTITION partition_name AS IDENTITY However, there are some really interesting behaviors.ALTER TABLE name In fact, most behaviors I’m used to, I can see: DISTINCT, WITH, UNION, ORDER BY and more. I can specify columns from the defined tables and use the alias of those tables to make the code clearer (and shorter). Finally, you decide what is being returned, SELECT.īy the nature of how a query works, all the examples I’ve listed so far show the basics of the SELECT operation. Then you apply filters to that data: WHERE. In a simple query, you simply define where the data is originating: FROM. I chose the order, FROM, WHERE, SELECT, because in PostgreSQL, as in SQL Server, this is the actual order of operations. These all perform the same logical functions. The standard join operators are the same: INNER, LEFT/ RIGHT OUTER, CROSS, FULL OUTER. The first big difference is in the use of JOIN operations. So much of the FROM clause in PGSQL is the same as T-SQL. Aliasing, everything, pretty much the way it works in T-SQL because that’s the way it works in the ANSI SQL Standard, to which PostgreSQL complies very closely. List table names, and/or, define a table through a sub- SELECT. While it can help to visualize this way, it certainly is not implemented this way. Yet, I know (reading ahead in the docs) that execution plans in PostgreSQL are similar to SQL Server and this description leads us down a path: virtual table, that’s not accurate, depending on the whole query, structures involved and statistics. It sounds like the FROM clause is a temporary table or something. The result of the FROM list is an intermediate virtual table that can then be subject to transformations by the WHERE, GROUP BY, and HAVING clauses and is finally the result of the overall table expression. Take this further explanation of what defines a table expression: While I wouldn’t myself define it this way, I find it to be interestingly more accurate than simply saying “table.” However, since you can make a query on a table expression, it is more than simply saying “tables.” Not all the definitions are useful though. Trivial table expressions simply refer to a table on disk, a so-called base table, but more complex expressions can be used to modify or combine base tables in various ways. I actually love how the PostgreSQL document defines what you’re doing in the FROM clause: After executing that script, execute the Sample The rest of the code in this article is in the 10_Select folder. The objects and database you will need can be created/reset using the CreateDatabase.sql script, then adding sample data using the SampleData.sql script. If you wish to execute the code or look at the data structures, the code is in my ScaryDBA/LearningPostgreSQL repository here. In the sample database I’ve created as a part of this ongoing series, I created a couple of schemas and organized my tables within them. And hoo boy, there’s some fun stuff in there. This won’t be a fundamental how-to on querying PostgreSQL, but instead an exploration of the gotchas you’re likely to experience coming in with existing knowledge of how you think these things should work. For this entry in the series, I’m going to focus on the core behaviors of SELECT, FROM and WHERE with an emphasis on what’s different from SQL Server. Instead, for this series, I’m just going to assume I may have more than one article on querying PostgreSQL. Further, since so much of this functionality is effectively identical to where I’m more comfortable, SQL Server, I’m not turning this into a PostgreSQL 101 on the SELECT statement. I honestly can’t do it justice in a single article. From standard SELECT… FROM… WHERE to windowing functions and recursive queries, PostgreSQL has it all. Further, PostgreSQL has an incredibly rich, wide, and varied set of mechanisms for retrieving data. Working with data in PostgreSQL is no exception. Writing queries to retrieve the data from a database is probably the single most common task when it comes to working with data. The sliding behavior always depends on the overall sliding system, and on parameters like sliding partner, load, sliding speed, surface roughness, temperature and so on. The fillers carbon fiber and graphite make TECAPEEK PVX black a superior bearing grade with improved thermal conductivity. PEEK O-rings, Peek Seats, PEEK Bushings, PEEK Bearings, PEEK Guide Blocks. The better the thermal conductivity of the part, the faster the heat is dissipated and overheating can be reduced. PEEK Machining - Milled & Turned PEEK Plastic Parts, Quality Turned Plastics. In order to avoid thermal overload of a bearing, the resulting frictional heat should be dissipated as quickly as possible from the sliding surface of the bearing. Because of these excellent sliding characteristics, they are used in gears, bearings, sliding bearings, and many other applications. PEEK is used where conventional materials (POM, PA / Nylon etc.) would be beyond their limits. With this combination of criteria, this bearing grade material can be used in harsh environments of 100 to 300☌. Improved heat dissipation (reduced frictional heat).Still, many applications call for special PEEK bearing grades as TECAPEEK PVX black, containing a multiple filler system (graphite, carbon fiber and PTFE), to fulfill a combination of requirements: Unfilled PEEK natural is the most balanced material in high temperature environments, where non-lubricated sliding and non-contamination is required. PEEK bearing materials with excellent heat resistance and durability Polyetheretherketone is often viewed as one of the engineering thermoplastics that tends to command a high price, however experienced users have come to realise the added value that PEEK materials bring by offering the possibility of manufactured parts that are lighter, stronger and able to survive longer periods under harsh conditions. PEEK plastic is often used in hot water or steam environments because it maintains physical properties such as flexural and tensile strength at a high level despite the severe environment. Parts manufactured from high temperature plastic PEEK polymer can also operate at temperatures up to 260☌ (480☏) and have a melting point around 341☌ (646☏). 30 carbon-filled PEEK has greater thermal conductivity than unfilled PEEK. It is the grade with the optimum wear-resistance and load carrying characteristics. And as a result its expansion rate is dramatically lowered. PEEK is a unique semi crystalline, engineering thermoplastic that also offers excellent chemical compatibility. PEEK CF30 is enhanced with 30 carbon fiber. The compressive strength and stiffness of the material is enhanced. It is extruded in sheet, rod and tube that may use Victrex® PEEK 450G or Solvay KetaSpire® KT-820 polymer. Some of the properties of 450G and 150G are compared in the table below to illustrate these differences.PEEK material (chemically known as polyetheretherketone) is manufactured by Ensinger in standard stock shapes for machining. This is a consequence of the shorter polymer chains, which are less entangled, crystallise more readily and to a greater overall extent. The high strength-to-weight ratio and heat tolerance of PEEK plastic makes it a popular choice for a wide range of applications including aerospace, biomedical, pharmaceutical, fiber optics, automotive, industrial, and more. However, the lower molecular weight also changes the bulk properties of the polymer: lower molecular weight PAEKs have higher stiffness and strength combined with reduced toughness, ductility and impact resistance. Springboard works with a wide variety of materials in our injection molding processes. As a result, 150G may be more suitable for applications where lower viscosity in the melt during processing is desirable, for example, when injection moulding thin-walled parts or long, thin sections with intricate geometries impregnating carbon or glass fibres for composite prepregs or adding high levels of solid fibrous or particulate fillers and reinforcements to make compounds. VICTREX PEEK 150G is a higher flow, lower molecular weight, lower MV grade of PEEK compared to 450G. Other VICTREX PEEK grades are available with higher and lower melt viscosities and higher or lower molecular weights respectively. VICTREX PEEK 450G is defined as a standard melt viscosity (MV) PEEK grade, with a medium molecular weight.
